SLIDING TO BEIJING
IN NAVY-THEMED SLEDS

The worlds of sport, art and maritime came together on Canada’s skeleton sleds and bobsleighs when Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton named three skeleton athletes along with a full fleet of 18 bobsledders that shipped out to Beijing on a mission to deliver podium performances at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

Motivated by a longstanding relationship between Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton and the Canadian Armed Forces, the athletes gave a nod to the history of Canada’s Navy while partnering with the Royal Canadian Navy to create a truly unique Olympic sled design.

Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton partnered with the Royal Canadian Navy, which has a long, strong and honourable tradition of supporting and defending our country on its mission for medals in Beijing, building on a longstanding relationship with the Canadian Armed Forces.

Whether on the ice or at sea, the distinction of putting on a Canadian uniform drives commitment to the training, preparation, perseverance and teamwork required to perform under immense pressure while representing your country. Sailors and athletes apply their tremendous skill – while working with specialized and purposefully designed equipment – to execute their missions with precision. We are united by the goal of making our team unstoppable, and our country proud.

Leveraging the synergies between a navy ship and a bobsleigh or skeleton sled – Chris engaged the lead designer of the Royal Canadian Navy who brought the relationship together through a truly unique design of Canada’s 2022 Olympic sleds, which paid homage to the Royal Canadian Navy for helping prepare the nation’s top bobsleigh and skeleton athletes for their #missionformedals in Beijing, China.

The design theme on the sleds featured the Second World War-era Admiralty Disruptive Paint. This heritage paint scheme honours the sacrifices Canadian sailors made in the Second World War and the Battle of the Atlantic and celebrates those who continue to serve today.

In an effort to prepare its athletes mentally for international competition, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton through Chris’ support has leveraged opportunities with the Canadian Armed Forces throughout the 2018 and 2022 Olympic quadrennials – from a two-day, overnight military training operation to sharing opportunities to experience flying planes and riding in bobsleighs to be a part of the World Cup and Olympic team announcements, to invoking national pride with the design of their 2018 Olympic sleds after a CF-18 Hornet, the two groups have been side-by-side on the track to the international podium for more than one decade.
